چکیده

It is assumed that HXR sources map to the primary energy release site in flares where particle acceleration occurs. Strong HXR sources are mostly observed at confined regions along the reconnecting magnetic arcade. We make a general approach on how the geometry of the reconnecting current sheet (CS) may influence the strength and localization of observed HXR sources. For this we use results from an analysis on the 3B/X3.8 flare on January 17, 2005 (Temmer et al., 2007), as well as measurements from the associated CME. Due to the close match of the CME acceleration profile and the flare HXR flux, we suppose that the CME might play a certain role in modifying the geometry of the CS (“symmetric” versus “asymmetric” vertically stretched CS). This could be the driver for “guiding” the accelerated particles to confined areas along the flaring arcade and might explain the spatially limited occurrence of strong HXR sources in comparison to elongated ribbons as seen in Hα and UV.

2 00 5 Footpoint Motion of the Continuum Emission in the 2002 September 30 White - Light Flare

We present observations of the 2002 September 30 white-light flare, in which the optical continuum emission near the Hα line is enhanced by ∼10%. The continuum emission exhibits a close temporal and spatial coincidence with the hard X-ray (HXR) footpoint observed by RHESSI. We find a systematic motion of the flare footpoint seen in the continuum emission; the motion history follows roughly that...

Multi-wavelength Signatures of Magnetic Reconnection of a Flare Associated Coronal Mass Ejection

The evolution of an X2.7 solar flare, that occurred in a complex βγδ magnetic configuration region on 2003 November 3, is discussed utilizing a multiwavelength data set. The Hα images taken from the solar tower telescope at ARIES, Nainital, reveal well-defined footpoint (FP) and loop-top (LT) sources. As the flare evolves, the LT source moves upward and the separation between the two FP sources...

The Spatial Distribution of Hard X-ray Spectral Index and Local Magnetic Reconnection Rate

The rare phenomenon of ribbon-like hard X-ray (HXR) sources up to 100 keV found in the 2005 May 13 M8.0 flare observed with the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager provides detailed information on the spatial distribution of flare HXR emission. In this Letter, we further investigate the characteristics of HXR emission in this event using imaging spectroscopy, from which we obta...

Comparative Analysis of Non-thermal Emissions and Study of Electron Transport in a Solar Flare

We study the non-thermal emissions in a solar flare occurring on 2003 May 29 by using RHESSI hard X-ray (HXR) and Nobeyama microwave observations. This flare shows several typical behaviors of the HXR and microwave emissions: time delay of microwave peaks relative to HXR peaks, loop-top microwave and footpoint HXR sources, and a harder electron energy distribution inferred from the microwave sp...

Difference between Spatial Distributions of the Hα Kernels and Hard X-ray Sources in a Solar Flare

We present the relation of the spatial distribution of Hα kernels with the distribution of hard X-ray (HXR) sources seen during the 2001 April 10 solar flare. This flare was observed in Hα with the Sartorius telescope at Kwasan Observatory, Kyoto University, and in hard X-rays (HXRs) with the Hard X-ray Telescope (HXT) onboard Yohkoh. We compared the spatial distribution of the HXR sources with...
